How long have you been a Vancouverite? 17 years

Occupation:
I am a photographer that specializes in weddings and lifestyle photography. By lifestyle, I mean everything from weddings, to portraits, to newborns, to people and their pets, to rock n’ rollers. Favourite place in the city:
This city is so magical that I don’t just have one favourite place. Being a wedding photographer, I am challenged on a regular basis to discover new hidden hideaways that will help to make my clients wedding day unique. I have yet to be stumped, and I think that we are so blessed to live in this beautiful city!

Best way to spend a Saturday in the city:
If you happen to pass by or are attending a wedding in this city, you can probably find me tagging along, hiding behind my camera. I have the best job in the world and am lucky to have the most amazing clients!

Favourite Vancouver artist:
I have been a rock n’ roll photographer since 1984, and have freelanced for Rolling Stone for the past 14 years documenting celebrities and musicians. Trying to nail down to just one favourite artist is impossible. Anyone that is creative and out their following their dreams is okay, in my books!

Top insider tip for visitors:
Hire me to document your journey (just joking)! If you are visiting, please bring a good camera to capture all of the amazing things that this city has to offer. Vancouver has everything from the beaches, to the mountains, to the ocean, to the urban city life; you may never leave!

From Hawaii to Ottawa – - How lucky can a girl be! I will travel the world, for LOVE.

I currently find myself in OTTAWA celebrating. Celebrating Mothers day with my momma and my sister as well celebrating + my little pooch Whiskey’s birthday, who turned 4!

FIRE DANCING | Vancouver portrait photographer

Fire dancing (also known as “fire twirling,” “fire spinning,” “fire performance,” or “fire manipulation“) is a group of performance arts or disciplines that involve manipulation of objects on fire. Typically these objects have one or more bundles of wicking, which are soaked in fuel and ignited.

Some of these disciplines are related to juggling or baton twirling (both forms of object manipulation), and there is also an affinity between fire dancing and rhythmic gymnastics. Firedancing is often performed to music. Fire dancing has been a traditional part of cultures from around the world, and modern fire performance often includes visual and stylistic elements from many traditions.

ummmmm hello.. one word for this – AWESOME!

I was blessed to see and snap these images during my visit to Hawaii at a luau I attended.

It was so fun to be able to capture these images. I just love them and wanted to share them with you.

Did I mentions that Hawaii is now my most favorite place in the world for this Vancouver portrait photographer. uh-huh!

aloha – Im back and back to blogging…

you may remember, I was on my way to this event and I got a call saying “I’ve booked you on a flight to Hawaii – you are leaving in 6 hours…” but first, I had a party to attend

This Vancouver wedding photographer loves me a good party, especially when Vancouver’s creme de la creme of the industry was here.

The party was thrown by the AMAZING Soha Lavin @ Countdown Events, and double yea being a guest at one of my favorite Vancouver wedding locations, the beautiful Vancouver Club

the one and only wedding style magazine publisher Grace Ormonde graced our city by choosing us as one of the cities for her book launch. The VIP party was limited to a few chosen few and I feel so blessed to have been a part of this magical night. A night to mingle with so many of my closest friends in the industry, chit chat and catch up and be so lucky to be able to not have my camera and watch the amazing Melissa + Tracey in action photographing GORGEOUS pics as I proudly present them on my blog (hee hee)..

Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!

I know a lot of you are saying whaaaaaaa, just like I was? So I thought I would post you a quick post to explain – Wednesday night at 7pm, I got a call saying – “your booked.. you fly out at 630am”

and I was like whaaaaaaaaa? I was on my way to the Grace Ormonde Party, to go I had to find a home for Whiskey, so I frantically started texting and calling everyone and got him sorted (thank you Nicki – OMG I LOVE YOU!!!!) dropping him off, packing, leaving at 4am – I was booked on the next flight to Hawaii!

I’m off today to photograph a volcano via helicopter (please dont pinch me – I don’t want to wake up from this dream…) but I promised to post some pics real fast of what I have seen so far.

Here’s a tease of the KAZILLION I have taken in the past 6 hours…

I can’t even BEGIN to explain the beauty that surrounds me.

I wish I could blog the smell of these plumerias (yes I have one in my hair at ALL times!) are just incredible!

the views and people are incredible…

Watch out HAWAII – I am so blessed to be a Vancouver wedding photographer, may have to commute to be a Hawaii wedding photographer.

I have an embarrassing confession to make… here it goes: I honestly was quite excited and could not wait to get OUT of dodge for the Olympics (as I don’t do so well with LARGE crowds) HOWEVER I am SO THANKFUL that for some reason the universe had me stay and I can honestly say the Vancouver 2010 Olympics was the most fun I have even had in my LIFE! ironically enough, was downtown about 3 times a day, documenting festivities all over the place and LOVED the positivity, people and fun that made our city shine and glow with Canadian Pride! I have never felt more patriotic in my life.

I was happy to be welcoming the World to my hometown:

I have documented some of my journey with you on previous blogs but wanted to close my happy blogging with just a few more fun images as you have been so wonderful to email me and comment on the others…

as you could see – I just couldn’t stop taking photos of the cauldron. It was so AMAZING to see up close.

An INCREDIBLE feeling and beautiful to shoot from all angles.

watching the rings turn gold almost nightly brought tears to my eyes.

Got to hang with the AWESOME TSN’s Dutchy – he’s an icon (I thought when I met him he said he shot Nikon – LOL – I’m such a geek)

the nightly fireworks were just such a beautiful treat to watch from wherever I was in the city just spectacular!

and our beautiful, friendly, loving city.. you made us proud!

pssssst… did I mention that someone I know got to WEAR a SILVER MEDAL ?! so fun and such and HONOR!

yeaaaaaaaaaa! how cute is this?! I’m on the SHOOTSAC blog (sporting my favorite camera bag!)

I have to say that I’ve always considered the Summer Olympics a little more fun than the Winter Olympics, except for the years that the US has had really great hopefuls in the sports I like to watch, which are mostly only Figure Skating (women’s singles), Alpine Skiing, and everyone’s fave, Curling. With our lack of a really great, experienced figure skater this year, most of my Olympic hopes were pinned on Lindsey Vonn, who did not disappoint!

One thing that I do love about this years’ Winter Games is that they are in Canada, our friendly, beautiful neighbor to the North! I also like that we’re in the same time zone, and can watch things as they happen and at normal hours.

That said, it looks like our own SHOOTSAC™ Lens Bag has finally made it! Angela Hubbard sent this shot over to us, and I can’t picture a more appropriate post to share with you today! It’s so cool that Angela is there in Vancouver, and that she thought of us! She let us know that SHOOTSAC™ is the official bag of the 2010 Olympics! Thanks Angela!
