Heros, Mentors, Shopping & Passion all found in the U.S.A

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

A gaggle of gals of Vancouver’s finest wedding photographers, ran for the border Thursday morning to take advantage of cross-border shopping, dinner in some fabulous restaurants, and to sleep in some posh hotels in Seattle.  My dog, Whiskey had his own mini-holiday & blog as you can see here - courtesy of his new friend “Uncle Jason”.

In my blessed career as a rock and roll photographer for Rolling Stone and as an invited celebrity and red-carpet event photographer I have often been asked by friends, and peers to share stories from touring with rocknroll bands and being ‘on the road‘ and being backstage with them. “What is so-and-so like? “, “Who made you star stuck?”….  In this blog, I feel blessed and honor to share with you 2 of the biggest mentors/rockstars I have EVER met. Joe Buissink and Yervant!

above featured is Jas, Joe, Me, Yervant and J Garner (a supermodel, a top 10 wedding photographer in the WORLD & founder of Boda bags - how’s that for a plug - J ??? ;) )

KING Yervant turned the big 5-0!  Happy Birthday!!!!

Who are they???? you ask!   They are masters of their craft, who have had passion for 15 years + in photography to earn the right to be called masters!!!!  Together, they combined their forces to bring a mind blowing mentor mini-workshop put on by Graphi Studios. This is who makes me awe struck.  Because of attending this workshop, I am a stronger, better person and photographer, by meeting them (again) and seeing them in action.  Also so lucky to have met new peers that share my passion, and the challenge of pushing myself to the next level in my art.

Thank you Joe, for re-confirming my beliefs, sharing your ‘secrets‘ (of which there are none) and sharing your eye, talent and vision and love to us. You are a true mentors and I feel blessed to have attended.

on a side note, Joe has also photographed a book called Autism Heros  and there is a special in which air on ABC tonight at 630p if you can catch it.  Please watch.

I’m back from Cuba…. and it was the most amazing time of my life!!!!!!

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

I have had the most amazing vacation of my life in Cuba!  I can not believe that we picked the most absolute perfect time to go.  When I left Vancouver, it was hailing snow chunks and when we landed in Cuba, we had absolutely the most perfect, sunny, gorgeous weather… today, I came landed in Vancouver to amazing spring weather and now it’s about to hit rainy, monsoon, hurricane time in Cuba I’m told…  I can not believe how lucky I am sometimes.  This year I feel like I am on permanent vacation!!

What happens in Cuba… well, (I can’t really remember everything) but I think in there are a few hundred photos to show a few of the stories of this amazing holiday!  ;)

I will share one fun story with you before I hit my overflowing email inbox, as I know some of mi amigos and amigas from the vacation are anxious to see it.

I’m Lovin’ It!

Yesterday was a GREAT  photoshoot day.  I was honored to be asked to photograph (4) Olympic 2010 hopefuls, (and their parents) for a great new campaign for McDonalds Restaurants.  This program supports 26 amateur athletes who are training intensively in their respective winter sports to realize their Olympic dream at the 2010 Vancouver Games.

Meet Alexandre, Denny, Alexa and Cindy

group5.jpg

Alexandre Despatie, three-time world champion and Olympic medallist in diving, and the long track speed skater Cindy Klassen, Canada’s all-time most decorated Olympian, are the program’s ambassadors.  Alexandre and Cindy have been McDonald’s ambassadors for many years, and will provide moral support to the athletes as they work towards achieving their dream over the next years.

group4.jpg

Denny Morrison was named Fort St. John Skater of the Year for 7 consecutive years before moving to Calgary in 2003 to join the National team. During the 2006-07 season, Denny won three medals at the World Single Distances Championships, silver in the 500 m and 1,500 m at the World Allround Championships and was ranked 1st in Canada in the 1,000 m and 1,500 m and 3rd in the 500 m.  In 2006, he won his first Olympic medal at the Torino Games by finishing 2nd in men’s team pursuit, in addition being ranked 2nd on 1,500 m in World Cup Standings. Thanks to his good results, Denny was named Male Skater of the Year - Long Track by Speed Skating Canada in 2006 and 2007.

group3.jpg

Hailing from Richmond -  Alexa Loo , has been a member of the Canadian snowboarding/alpine team for nine years, in addition to being the only chartered accountant in the team. During the last seasons, she got many good results, including gold medals at the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Nor-Am Cups.

All the best, and I look forward to seeing you win big in Whistler in 2010! :)

After 13 years of dating, many challenges, and highs and lows… the perfect date for a wedding was set for Keith and Helen.  The family Church where his parents were wed, was the venue in Vancouver.

I just love the details…

I must say, the Dubick family is pretty good at throwing a good bash!

Hailing from Edmonton, where there is currently snow on the ground, we had to take advantage of the beautiful Vancouver day, weather and beach.

Finally wed, spring is in the air!
